Why Radiologists Choose RamSoft for Mobile Mammography

My name is Dr. Ryan Polselli, and I am the owner of 3D Mobile Mammography by MammoLink, which is our company. Predominantly, we provide breast cancer screening and diagnosis through mobile mammography. However, we are not strictly a mobile mammography company. If you were to ask what our company focuses on, I would say we are a patient advocate company specializing in breast imaging, breast cancer screening, and diagnosis.

One of the most effective ways we’ve found to serve our patients is through mobile mammography. We currently have four units and are expecting a fifth soon. We've been quite successful in disrupting the current status quo of breast imaging in our area, breaking down barriers and increasing participation in screening. Medicine is good at practicing medicine, but not always good at implementing it practically in ways that directly relate to patients' lives. Our goal is to get better at that.

The reason I chose RamSoft is that it’s probably one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when building around the patient. From a radiologist's perspective, reliability was key. I wanted a PACS system with the least number of issues, and that was RamSoft. I needed something that would work, especially in a mobile setting, where so many factors can go wrong—but the one thing that can't fail is your PACS system. Knowing that RamSoft is web-based and uses Microsoft Azure servers, I felt confident in its reliability.

Ability to tailor this to our patients, we started by focusing on the patients' needs and then worked backward, identifying what we needed to provide. There was a lot of tailoring to this. For us, immediate patient access to their reports was crucial, and RamSoft delivered. They also allowed us to send pre-cache studies from different locations, which was essential since tomosynthesis files are so large. Transferring large files quickly was a top priority, especially from our mobile buses through the gateway system. RamSoft provided the necessary tools to get those images off the buses fast.

Another major factor was accessibility. RamSoft offers a patient portal, a physician portal, and integration with PatientPal, which we love. Some patients will get their mammogram on the bus, spend a few minutes talking, and receive their report texted to their phone before they leave. They love it and are amazed by it, and that was important to us. That was last piece that made me choose RamSoft.

We are now starting to do mobile diagnostics, which is only possible thanks to RamSoft's Gateway solution. The gateways allow us to quickly get images off the bus, enabling real-time diagnostic workups. Even from a remote location, I can review images and direct the team on-site with no delay to patients. This has been huge for us, particularly in terms of reliability. The images get there quickly, and we can move the program forward seamlessly.

Here's a special story: A 37-year-oldpatient found a lump on a Friday and wanted to get checked. It just so happened we were going to be in her neighborhood on Saturday. She came to the bus for a diagnostic exam, and while working her up, we found calcifications in the other breast—something she hadn’t even come in for. We worked her up on the spot on weekend, and by Wednesday, she was in for a biopsy.

This process has been incredibly effective. I wasn’t sure how well it would work initially, but it has exceeded my expectations. It’s been fantastic.
